Cyclone Fani: Funani wreak havoc in Odisha, eight deaths; Hundreds of houses damaged, thousands of trees raised


Cyclone Fani stormed into the Bay of Bengal on Friday, with fierce storms in Puri and other districts of Odisha. During this time eight people died in three separate incidents. While in Puri, winds of up to 245 km, the other parts have torrential rains with strong winds at 175 Kmph.

Government Air India Air India has come forward to help the people affected by the cyclonic storm in Odisha. Air India has said that if any NGO, social institution or person wants to send relief material for the victims, then Air India can give it. Air India will deliver this relief material to the victims of the cyclonic storm in Odisha without charge.

The power system and the communication system have been cramped. More than 220 trains on Kolkata-Chennai route have been canceled since Saturday. All flights to Bhubaneswar airport were canceled on Friday.


Central Government has released Rs.1000 crores to tackle the affected states. It was announced on Friday by PM Narendra Modi. Earlier, 11 lakh people had already been removed from the affected areas, which resulted in a loss of losses. 10,000 villages and 52 urban areas were evacuated.

Hurricanes turned towards Bangladesh
After passing through Puri, the Fani cyclone passed through West Bengal passing towards Khurda, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Bhadrak, and Baleshwar and went towards Bangladesh. People were removed from the settlements

28 teams of NDRF deployed
28 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to deal with any disaster. Earlier, the administration had made all the preparations to deal with any untowardness. 800 shelters have been built for the affected. Schools and colleges have been turned into a shelter site.


Prepare a million food packets
Two helicopters are ready to distribute one lakh packets of dried food for the affected people and to distribute them. Indian Coast Guard has 34 disaster relief teams at different places in Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Gopalpur, Haldia, Fraserganj and Kolkata. Four ships are deployed to deal with any emergency. The Indian Navy has also deployed three vessels along with relief material and medical teams so that they can start rescue operations. The 17th place has been arranged by the Health Ministry on special arrangements.

PM gives every possible help
 PM Modi, who arrived for a rally in Karauli-Dhaulpur, Rajasthan, also mentioned Fani. Said that the central government is in constant touch with the governments of the affected states and a day earlier it has been released more than Rs.1000 crores for this.

Railways will provide free transport of relief material
Railways have said that they will make free transport of relief material for cyclone-affected Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh. Railways have issued guidelines in this regard. It has also written a letter to all the Divisional Rail Managers (DRM) in this regard. According to the railway, relief and relief material can be sent to affected states through District Collector and Commissioner. Railway freight carriage transported by government organizations will be free. In respective districts, the District Collector and Commissioner will also get relief material.

Extensive impact in Bengal too
Fani has seen a widespread impact in West Medinipur districts of West Bengal. 185 houses damaged due to the storm Nine injured. Three dead in Bihar

Exemption of code of conduct for four districts of Andhra
In view of the cyclone Phani, the Election Commission has relaxed the Model Code of Conduct in four districts of Andhra Pradesh so that relief and rescue work can be carried out at a fast pace. Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer had demanded from the Election Commission to relax the Model Code of Conduct for Eastern Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vijayanagaram and Srikakulam, which the Commission accepted.
